The Memory Probe
- Bring the piece of jewelry that has been in your possession the longest or be prepared to tell us about it.
- Bring or be prepared to talk about the oldest object in your possession.
Readings
- Moonwalking with Einstein by Josh Foer is on your reading list. If you’ve read through it, come prepared with passages to share in class that were meaningful to you or that you had questions about.
The Project
- Make a “locket” that explores memory. This can be a single object or a set of associated objects.
- A small case for a miniature portrait, a lock of hair, or other keepsake, usually worn on a necklace.
- Make 10 charms for each other and a group charm bracelet for end of session Penland auction.

The Schedule
- Week One: Focus on reading, designing, form and idea development, making models and sketches, playing with techniques of etching, hydraulic press and hinges and making samples. By the end of Week One begin fabrication of final object(s).
- Week Two: Follow through with completion of your ‘locket’ object.
